"63% of farmers believe ...."
This is an interesting opinion piece alleging various facts - but what do you think about the conclusions?
Around 84% of us live in urban areas but we’re "totally disconnected from rural life".
54% of farms are turning a profit (in contrast to 27% of farms six months ago)
63% of farmers believe that human activity does contribute to climate change.
Then there’s this conclusion from the article: "Farmers need to accept greater costs to mitigate their environmental impact" and "That won’t happen if we just rap them over the knuckles, dump regulations on them, or make them feel isolated."
Balance is a great thing to any discussion so you might ask: What are the benefits of having regulations? Answers might include that they protect your industry, build confidence with your consumers and trade partners, and keep a market open rather than you losing market share to a competitor - that sort of thing.
So is the question less about the amount of regulation, and more about the quality, effectiveness and practicality of regulation?
